Ladies Defeated Despite Fightback

5 November 2012

Ladies involved in an exciting eight-goal game at the weekend…

Notts County Ladies were dumped out of the League Cup on Sunday, following a 5-3 defeat to Ruddington Ladies.

A nightmare first half saw a makeshift Magpies backline concede four goals but Courtney Walters’ finish ahead of the break gave them hope.

County were much improved after the interval and piled the pressure onto Ruddington.

They fully deserved to close the gap to two goals, when Walters found the net from a tight angle.

Anna Horton then made it 4-3 with a thumping finish and efforts from Cath Eyley, Alex Francis and Alex Johnson were unfortunate not to pull the Magpies onto even terms.

Against the run of play, with just 10 minutes remaining, Ruddington killed off the game courtesy of a goal on the counter attack.

Ladies’ manager Andrew Eastwood said: “I was pleased with his team’s performance as they showed real character to fight back from four goals down.”

The Ladies face an away trip to Grimsby Town next week in a return to league action.

Notts Ladies development team claimed a 3-3 draw with Arnold Town.
