Iwelumo Excited By County Move

23 November 2012

Chris Iwelumo is eager recreate the form he experienced during his last spell in npower League 1.

On Thursday, Iwelumo teamed up with the Magpies on a one-month emergency loan from Championship Watford.

The 6ft 3ins frontman had played eight times for Gianfranco Zola’s side this term but was allowed to make the switch to Meadow Lane, following a late swoop by County boss Keith Curle.

Iwelumo last appeared in the third tier of English football in 2005.06, when he tucked away 19 goals to help Colchester United gain a place in the Championship.

Although he has spent every season since then in the top two flights, the former Charlton man did not have any issues dropping down a division to play regular football.

“This is where it all kicked off for me at Colchester, when we got promoted from League 1,” he explained.

“I’m a seasoned pro, I’ll keep my head down, and I’ll hopefully bring some experience and goals.

“I’m buzzing, because the last month’s been hard on me mentally as well as I’ve been out of the frame at Watford, and this is just a breath of fresh air really.”

He added: “For any professional footballer, you’ve got to be playing and I’m delighted to be here.

“I’m looking forward to the month ahead.”
