Midfield duo key to Magpies' recent results on the road...

Jeff Hughes has been pleased with the way that the Magpies have tightened things up at the back again.

Notts conceded five goals in the home encounters with AFC Bournemouth and Doncaster Rovers but have responded with back-to-back clean sheets.

Following on from the 2-0 win over Portsmouth in the FA Cup with Budweiser, County repeated the scoreline against Colchester United on Tuesday night.

In the absence of the sidelined Alan Sheehan and Jordan Stewart, Hughes has filled in at left-back for the last two fixtures.

The number 11 is settling into the role well but shifted much of the praise to midfield duo Neal Bishop and Andre Boucaud.

He told Magpie Player: “We’ve had one slip and, barring that, it’s one clear-cut chance in two games and we’re very pleased with that.

“Bish and Boucs have a lot to do with that, they do a lot of running that can go unappreciated.

“Those two put one hell of a shift again.”

He continued: “We scored two really good goals and Judgey and Bish will get the plaudits for that, but it’s games away from home that you really see Bish and Boucs really put the graft in.

“For half an hour at the end, they were just chasing – chasing, chasing, chasing, chasing.

“That’s the sort of thing we have to do if we want to be successful.”

Hughes is now calling for the Magpies to lift the home hoodoo on the back of another impressive away day.

“We need to start winning our games at home, I know we’re in a good league position but we need to start winning in front of our own fans,” he said.

“We want to make Meadow Lane a place where teams don’t want to come.

“We’re going to concentrate on Saturday but let’s just hope that we don’t miss out again.”
