Boss Wants Money-Spinning Cup Run

2 November 2012

Manager hopes to boost club coffers and excite fans with a cup run...

A good FA Cup with Budweiser run can increase the Magpies' chances of success in the league, says Keith Curle.

Cash raised by the team's tournament journey will enable the manager to add to his squad, as Notts look to gain promotion to the Championship.

County have enjoyed great success in the tournament over the past three seasons, having reached the fifth round in 2009.10 and the fourth round in 2010.11 and 2011.12.

Curle is targeting more cup excitement for the County fans this season, ahead of a tough encounter with npower League 1 rivals Portsmouth.

He said: “Obviously it creates a wanted distraction, because you get the opportunity, if we get through this round and the next round when the big guns come in, to ply our trade against the best teams in the country if we get a Premier League draw.

“It does have a cash benefit as well that can only help the football club again.

“The more money that comes into the club coffers from cup runs the better, as that money will get put back into team strengthening.”

He added: “In the Capital One Cup, I wanted to win that and progress; the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, I wanted to win that and progress.

“On both occasions, I’ve played my strongest team available and we’ve come up short.

“The FA Cup, again, I will play my strongest team available and the mindset from the players is that we want to win that game, especially coming off the back of a draw and a defeat at home that we don’t like.”
