First Real Test

20 July 2012

Summer recruit is excited about this weekend's first friendly...

Dean Leacock is looking forward to seeing the squad’s hard work put to the test in this weekend’s friendly with Buxton.

The Magpies returned to pre-season training last Tuesday but face their first 90 minutes at The Silverlands on Saturday.

Leacock, who arrived at Meadow Lane this summer, is excited about getting the campaign underway and can’t wait to pull on a Notts County jersey for the first time.

“There’s been a lot of hard work and I’m just looking forward to the first game of the season,” the defender told Magpie Player.

“The ball work has stepped up this week and the lads are looking sharp, ready for the game on Saturday.

“I’ve actually played against Buxton before for Derby reserves so I know a bit about them.

“But the aim of the first game is more to get a fitness run out and get a touch of the ball, so hopefully my fitness will be okay.

“It is the first real test because the lads aren’t going to go 100 per cent in training, because you don’t want to get no niggles.

“Obviously on Saturday they’re going to be up for it and they’re obviously going to want to win, so we’ve got to go out there and be professionals and put on a good performance for ourselves and the fans.”
