Enthusiasm Brought Me Here

5 July 2012

Exciting winger is going to express himself in a County jersey...

New signing Jamal Campbell-Ryce pointed out that it was Keith Curle's enthusiasm that made him pick the Magpies.

The 29-year-old winger signed a two-year deal on Tuesday and is the sixth summer signing at Meadow Lane.

The former Bristol City man had a number of options but is delighted to have arrived at Meadow Lane.

He told Magpie Player: "This is my first time being out of contract and it's not really a nice feeling, but it's refreshing and it was nice to be wanted so much by the gaffer, Keith Curle.

"I'm just looking forward to pre-season and getting fit and getting into the season and starting off like really well for the club.

"I had a phone call from my agent telling me of the interest from Keith Curle and they wanted to get things moving so obviously we had a chat and it was encouraging.

"I had one or two other clubs that I was talking to, but Keith Curle seemed like the most enthusiastic and he's instilling a lot of confidence in me, so that went a long way."

The wideman also commented that he has already been told to express himself in the black and white stripes.

He added: "The gaffer said he wants me to play with a freedom and enjoy my football and obviously work hard when we haven't got the ball, which is obviously standard.

"But it was really encouraging to hear a manager saying to go and express yourself, go anywhere you want and do your thing so hopefully I can return the favour and actually make things happen on the pitch."
