Development squad manager prepares to take charge of Notts County XI...

Chris Kiwomya is set to run the rule over a number of trialists in this weekend’s friendly with Ilkeston FC.

Since the beginning of pre-season a collection of players have been mixed in with the contracted squad members, as first team manager Keith Curle weighs up further recruitments in the build-up to the 2012.13 campaign.

Trialists are expected to feature in both of this weekend’s friendlies, which include a trip to Buxton and the Robins’ New Manor Ground.

Kiwomya will head up a Notts County XI against Ilkeston, whereas Curle will take charge of a team at The Silverlands that will contain the majority of senior players.

The development squad manager feels that the backroom team will get a better idea of what the trialists are capable of from 90 minutes of match action.

Speaking to Magpie Player, he explained: “We can have a look at them in the surroundings of a better level because it’s okay seeing things in training but it’s always important to see what they can do on the pitch during a game.

“The manager and the coaches have had a look at some of the trialists, in training for the first few days the lads were all mixed in together.

“This is so you can actually see them shooting and controlling, in all different aspects of the game.

“They’ve had a little look but I’ll obviously do a report on the game on Saturday and let them know which of the trialists did very well and if they’re worth having a look at.”
