A Big Day For Me

20 July 2012

Waite hopes to make an impression against his former club...

A lot has changed over the past 12 months for Tyrell Waite, who is preparing to face his former club, Ilkeston FC, this weekend.

The frontman made the switch to Meadow Lane from the New Manor Ground last season and has become a regular in the Magpies development squad.

Just over a year ago the 18-year-old lined up for Ilkeston against Notts in a match that ended 2-2.

At 3pm on Saturday Waite will make up part of a County XI and is eager to impress upon his return.

He told Magpie Player: “I’ve been looking forward to it a lot and it should be an exciting game, because there’s new heads in the squad.

“I’ll be playing against my old club and to get a goal would be good, but we’ll see what happens.

“It’s a big day for me because I spent a couple of years there and did well, then obviously got the move.”

He added: “I made history there as well by scoring their first ever goal and it will be good to see a few of my old friends, the manager and the coach, it should be good.”

Waite has been training regularly with the senior players since returning for pre-season and is hoping to show how much he has improved since signing for the Magpies.

“I think I’ve developed quite a lot, I’ve been playing with professional players and the first team squad,” he continued.

“I’ve had to step up a bit, up my game a little bit and I feel that I’ve improved quite a lot as a player.

“It is a bit strange to be going back just a year after playing against Notts for Ilkeston but that’s how football goes sometimes.

“I feel like I’ve deserved it and I’ve worked hard for it so I’m proud.”
