Let’s Make This Place A Fortress

30 December 2012

Neal Bishop has a couple of New Year’s resolutions: gain promotion and turn Meadow Lane into a place to be feared.

Although the Magpies are now 22 games unbeaten on the road, home form has not been as desired during 2012.13.

What better time to turn it around than the turn of the year, says the skipper.

In his interview with #themag, the club’s official matchbook, Bishop speaks about how improving home form is crucial to the team achieving their biggest objective this season –  a place in the Championship.

“I think the basis of any team that does well is making your place a fortress,” he told #themag, which is a bumper 100-page 150th Anniversary special for the New Year’s Day clash with Milton Keynes Dons (3pm kick-off).

“We’ve done it backwards this season, but if we’re going to have a good season and get promoted, we’ve got to make this place hard to visit.

“It’s a horrible feeling when you come off your own pitch and the opposition have taken three points off you.

“It’s not nice for the supporters and it’s not nice for us as players, because we feel it as much as them and we want to put that right.

“The fans can be a massive part of us turning it around and they’ve stuck with us, even though the results haven’t been going our way here as much as we’d have liked.

“We’re all in this together and we all know where we want to be.

“As a squad, we’re all pulling together and we need the supporters with us every step of the way.

“It’s a pleasure to have this as our home ground and we want to make it a fortress and fingers crossed we can make that happen in 2013.”

You can read the full interview in the Limited Edition matchbook, which can be reserved from the club shop at a price of only £3.
