Ladies Into The Third Round

17 December 2012

Notts County Ladies overcame higher league opposition to book a place in the FA Women’s County Cup third round.

The female Magpies beat Real United Ladies 2-1, courtesy of goals from Courtney Walters.

Although camped in their own half for large periods, the Magpies moved in front in the 30th minute, when Walters slotted past the home goalkeeper, following fine work by Jasmin Bear.

Walters then doubled her side’s lead with a lobbed finish that, again, was set up by Bear.

United put Notts under serious pressure in the second period but it was not until the 65th minute that they pulled a goal back through Mel Warhurst’s deflected effort.

A solid defensive display kept out United and County held on for the win, despite going down to 10 players, following a late injury to Alex Johnson.

Ladies’ boss Andrew Eastwood was delighted with his team.

He told the official site: “The County girl’s worked their socks off.

“It just goes to show with a little hard work and a desire to do well this team can achieve so much.”
