Hughes: Fans Deserve Cup Success

2 December 2012

Jeff Hughes hopes that the loyal Notts County fans will be rewarded with a potential big-name tie in the next round of the FA Cup with Budweiser.

Although the Magpies were unable to confirm their place in the third stage of the tournament on Saturday afternoon against Rotherham United, all eyes will be on the Sunday afternoon draw.

The 1-1 draw means that Notts will be in the hat, which will include Championship and Premier League teams.

Hughes has been greatly impressed by the backing that the County fans have given the team in the tournament in the time he has been with the club.

He heaped praise on the 1,837 that turned out to support the team at the New York Stadium.

“I was really impressed, you know what the Notts fans are like, they were brilliant at Doncaster last year and Sutton away,” he said.

“The FA Cup is something that they’ve really taken to and they were fantastic.

“They filled the whole away end behind the goal and you’ve got to give credit where it’s due.

“Let’s hope for the club’s sake that there’s the potential for a big club if we can get past Rotherham in the replay.”
