Gavin Mahon has set his sights on an unforgettable cup run, as the Magpies prepare for Tuesday night’s Meadow Lane clash with Rotherham United.
Notts face the Millers in an FA Cup with Budweiser second round replay, following a draw at the New York Stadium earlier this month.
Mahon made a return to first team action in that fixture and followed it up with an impressive performance in the weekend’s draw with Yeovil Town.
The 35-year-old is glad to be back in the mix and hopes to play his part in getting the Magpies into the next round and beyond.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to play in some big FA Cup games and this is another one, against Rotherham,” said Mahon, in an exclusive interview with the club’s official matchbook, #themag.
“I think we can go very far but obviously you need the luck of the draw and we’ve got a tough game against Rotherham.
“If we get past them and can beat Aldershot, you never know.
“You always get Premier League and Championship sides struggling against the lower-league teams, because they work so hard as a team.
"They make it hard to play against them and do the dogged things well.
“That’s what we’re going to get in the Rotherham game and if we get past them, the Aldershot one as well - it’s going to be tough.”
He continues: “I prefer to be favourites, though, because as a player you want to play in the big games and want to be there to be shot at.
“I think if you’ve got 11 players that can deal with that, you should be successful.
“I’ve played in teams where we all believed in what we were doing and we got results, even if we weren’t the best side in the world.
“We believed that we could do it and that’s how you have to be in these games.”
