Keith Curle never had any doubts about throwing Gavin Mahon back into the mix and has been pleased with the experienced midfielder’s return to the side.
Mahon, 35, was thrust back into action for the FA Cup with Budweiser second round meeting with Rotherham United at the New York Stadium earlier this month, following an injury to Andre Boucaud.
The former Brentford man has put in two solid showings, against the Millers and then in the 0-0 draw with Yeovil Town at Huish Park, and is in line to start against his former club in the weekend’s Meadow Lane meeting.
Curle knows he can rely on Mahon at any point, even though he has faced limited game time this season.
“Gavin knows how to play the position, he’s reliable and consistent in his performances,” said Curle.
“I think the players around him need that, and as a team we need that level of performance and consistency.
“I know what Gavin can do, he knows what he can do.
“As and when I need Gavin, I know the level of performance I’m going to get out of him.”
