Young Magpies without a key player after first team call-up...

The youth team are set to be without one of their key players for their local derby with Chesterfield but they could not be happier.

Following an inter-squad friendly at the St George’s Park training base in midweek (WATCH HERE), a scholar will be traveling to Bury with the first team.

The player, who first team manager Keith Curle chose not to name publicly in his pre-match interviews, put in a performance that caught the attention of the senior coaching staff and he could be named in the squad at Gigg Lane.

Youth team coach Brett Adams was delighted with the news, even if it means he has to raid club’s Academy ranks for the local derby.

He told Magpie Player: “It’s a massive game and everybody’s looking forward to it.

“But, as much as we want to win games, if we have to put the under 14s and 15s out there it doesn’t matter.

“We want to win the game and we want to embed that in the players because winning is a habit.

“However, if we can see loads of players going out on loan or going up into the manager’s squad it’s only right for this football club.

“No matter what happens on Saturday, whether we get the three points or not, the way the players are drilled at the minute and how they’re enjoying themselves, they’ll got out there and they’ll have a good go.

“They’ll try to play some football and you’ll see that on the video (WATCH HERE) and hopefully a few people will come down to watch us on Saturday.”

Kick-off for the youth team’s game will be 11am at the Highfields training facility in Nottingham, with full details available by clicking here.
