Notts Co Youth Team 1-3 York Youth Team

20 August 2012

Young Magpies suffer first loss of the campaign...

Notts County youth team suffered a disappointing defeat to York City on Saturday at the Highfields training facility.

The Magpies fell behind shortly before the break and conceded again early into the second period.

A penalty from midfielder Kyle Dixon gave Notts hope in the final stages but York were able to grab another goal on the break in the dying moments.

The 3-1 scoreline marked Notts’ first loss of the new season, following a positive opening day draw with last year’s champions Hull City.

“I thought we started okay, but our tempo just wasn’t quite up to standards,” head of youth Mick Leonard told the Official Site.

“Just before half time they scored - the worst possible time to concede as you see so often in games.

“Unfortunately for us we didn’t start brighter in the second half and conceded a second, which made life difficult.

“The lads rallied and were on top when Kyle Dixon scored from the spot to make it 2-1.

“We pushed on in numbers to try and get a result and I thought the momentum was with us to get all three points.

“Again we’ve had good chances and not taken them and conceded in the final seconds to lose the game.

“It is disappointing, you can’t deny that.”
