Defender is happy with the mood in the camp...

Alan Sheehan has been happy with the progress made throughout pre-season and can’t wait to kick off the competitive campaign this weekend.

The Magpies take on Bradford City in the Capital One Cup at Meadow Lane on Saturday, following a testing month of preparations.

There have been 12 new arrivals this summer, including defenders Carl Regan and Tom Williams who are are in the process of completing deals with the club, and Sheehan is impressed by how quickly they have settled into the squad.

The defender feels that it is transferring onto the pitch and is confident about achieving success in the new season.

“We’ve got some good players here and we’re here for each other, we get on like a house on fire,” he told Magpie Player.

“The time we had away in Spain the boys got to know each other and there’s a very close-knit bunch of guys here.

“It’s one of the closest that I’ve come across during my football career so if we can be as close on the pitch we’ll be okay.

“We’re still getting used to one another on the pitch and it’s coming.

“We’ve seen glimpses in the 45 against Athens and the 45 in the second half against Forest.

“It shows we can play, there’s no doubt about that, but it’s just about carrying that into these competitive games now.”
