Youth Alliance League: Burton Albion 2-1 Notts County

9 November 2018

Notts County Under 18s fell to a 2-1 defeat against Burton Albion despite Tyreece Kennedy-Williams’ late strike giving hope of a comeback.

Tom Hewlett’s brace put the home side two goals to the good at St George’s Park before the Magpies’ left-back ensured a nervy ending.

The Burton danger-man fired wide early on but opened the scoring on the half-hour mark when he turned home Tom Armitage’s cross.

Jack Henchcliffe had Notts’ best effort of the half but was denied by Burton goalkeeper Nathan Smith after picking up Tyreace Palmer's knockdown.

Most Burton attacks involved Hewlett and in the last action of the first half he looked to turn provider, cutting the ball back to Tyo Carter whose effort came back off the bar.

Ten minutes after the interval Burton doubled their lead when Ben Hart found room to square for Hewlett to tap in his second of the afternoon.

Notts almost replied instantly when Leo Marshall won the ball high up the pitch, but Smith did well to intercept his cut-back.

Ethan Vale almost made it 3-0 when he got on the end of Hewlett’s low cross but his shot cannoned back off the post.

Notts had a number of long-distance efforts saved by Smith before they did find a breakthrough.

A ball into the box eventually fell to Kennedy-Williams who fired home but there wasn’t enough time remaining for Notts to find an equaliser.

Notts: Culverwell, Simmons, Marshall, Newell, Ramirez, Altaf, McKenna, Bucalossi, Palmer, Henchcliffe, Smith.

Subs used: Brooks, Cummings, Kennedy-Williams, Wilde, Duncan.
