Central League: Notts 2-2 Grimsby

Spoils shared at Ilkeston

4 December 2018

Notts County were denied three points by a spirited comeback from Grimsby Town in Tuesday's 2-2 draw in the Central League.

The Magpies, under the stewardship of Mark Burton, went into half-time at Ilkeston Town's New Manor Ground two goals to the good thanks to Kion Etete and Sam Osborne.

But after the break, Harry Cardwell reduced the lead before Mitchell Rose restored parity from the penalty spot.

The half-time advantage was exactly what Notts deserved after creating a host of chances in the opening stages of the game before Etete broke the deadlock in the 18th minute when he was played in by midfielder Tom Crawford.

The young striker, who last week signed his first professional deal, was also involved in the Magpies' second when his volley was saved and dropped kindly for Osborne to apply the simple finish.

Notts had dominated the opening period but the match proved to be a game of two halves.

The visitors came out firing after the interval and levelled within five minutes of the restart when Cardwell fired a low effort into the bottom corner.

Both sides had sights of goal before Rose was tripped in the box shortly after the hour mark and picked himself up to convert from 12 yards.

And Rose claimed the game's last chance on 87 minutes when Tiernan Brooks denied him with a good stop to ensure the teams left with a point apiece.

Notts: Brooks, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Davies (C), Bird, Marshall, Ramirez, Bucalossi (Henchcliffe ), Crawford, Cummings, Osborne, Etete
