Mark Ellis struck late on to hand Ian Burchnall his first win as head coach.
In front of the BT Sport cameras, Ellis turned the ball home on 80 minutes after Connell Rawlinson had met Jordan Barnett's corner.
Before half-time we'd had a strong penalty appeal waved away when Kyle Wootton's goalbound header appeared to be diverted over by the arm of a defender and Wrexham went close on a number of occasions, mostly in the opening five minutes of the match.
But, on an afternoon when Lewis Knight and Regan Griffiths made their debuts, Cal Roberts returned to action as a 78th-minute substitute and Wootton saw red for a second booking late on, it was us who took the points to give our promotion hopes a timely boost.
STARTING XI: Slocombe; Barnett, Chicksen, Ellis, Rawlinson; Reeves, O'Brien (Roberts 78'), Griffiths; Wootton, Knowles (Knight 68')
UNUSED SUBS: Kelly-Evans, Miller, Rodrigues
