Bencherif left Macclesfield Town to join Notts County in the summer of 2011 and went on to make 25 appearances in his first season at Meadow Lane.
Although brought to the club to play in the holding midfield role, the 6ft 3ins former Forest man also appeared in more advanced positions, as well as at centre-back.
His height and power is an asset at both ends of the pitch, in addition to his ability to strike the ball, which was demonstrated with a thunderous free-kick away at Bournemouth.
In 2012.13 Bencherif is looking to become a regular in the starting 11 under Keith Curle.
