Mr and Mrs Magpie have become the latest Football League mascots to sign up for August's 'Daffodil Derby' to officially launch the new partnership between The Football League and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

All 72 Football League mascots have been invited to the event at Southwell Racecourse in Nottingham on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 from 7.45pm, which is open to the general public.

Consisting of a one furlong sprint and involving three hay bale jumps, the race will kick-start the fundraising for Marie Curie Cancer Care - the Official Charity Partner of The Football League for the 2010/11 season.

The charity, which provides care, free of charge, to terminally ill patients in their own homes and in its hospices, was selected following a vote of over 25,000 Football League fans last season.

As a result Marie Curie Cancer Care will benefit from unrivalled exposure across The League, including support and fundraising from all 72 clubs.

Gavin Megaw, Director of External Affairs at The Football League, said: "The Daffodil Derby is a fantastic way by which to launch our partnership with Marie Curie Cancer Care.

"The support and hard work of all 72 clubs is going to be crucial in our fundraising efforts and it is great to see Notts playing such an important role at the start of the partnership.

"The event will provide a fun evening for all the family and I would encourage everyone to head down to Southwell Racecourse, enjoy the race and give as much as they can to Marie Curie."

Mr and Mrs Magpie, like the first team squad, have been training long and hard this summer for the race and she is very confident of a good performance.
