Notts County youth team made it back-to-back wins with a 4-2 victory against Lincoln City at the weekend.

This followed up the triumph over high flying York City last week.

The Imps went ahead early on from a set-play but Lewis Williamson levelled, latching onto a long ball over the defence to slot past the stopper.

New boy George Nicholas put the Magpies in front before the break, capitalising to find the net with his head from an offensive free-kick.

Within five minutes of the restart, Lincoln pulled the score back to 2-2 taking advantage of a miss-kick by goalkeeper Liam Mitchell.

Lewis Whiteley fired County back into the lead by pouncing onto a rebound to smash into the roof of the net from close-range.

Chris Langham made the points safe when he nodded in at the back post for the fourth during a goalmouth scramble.

Youth team coach Michael Johnson was thrilled with his team's determined display and the character shown to fight back from going a goal down.

He said: "It's a credit to the boys in the way that they're going about their business.

"I think they've realised that we're not going to be able to just pass teams off the park, we've got to roll our sleeves up and earn the right to play.

"You're going to have to mix it up because Lincoln came with their game plan, which was very direct, very much in your face and they had to match that.

"We're moving up the league, slowly but gently."

Johnson felt that the concession sparked his team into life after a slow start to the match.

He said: "We didn't start that well, I think the lads were a bit nervous after such a good win the week before.

"It was an awakening, Lincoln are a good set-play team and they were warned that this was the way that they played.

"We did loads of practice on that and it was frustrating when they scored from a set-play.

"It was like a slap in the face to the boys and after that, they started to play."
