A Sad Farewell To An Avid Pie

Posted on: Fri 28 Oct 2011

Earlier this week we heard that Notts fan Peter Morris, known by most Notts fans as "Pete the Plumber from Long Eaton", sadly lost his battle with Parkinsons and Dementia on Friday, October 21 aged 73 years.

Coming from a family of Forest fans, Pete attended a Notts County game at a tender age with his father who supported both teams, and never looked back.

An ever present at home and away games for nearly 70 years, Peter would fondly recall the Tommy Lawton years with crowds being locked out as the grounds capacity of 45,000 was exceeded, the Jimmy Sirrel years recalling Notts emphatic victory over Aston Villa who were 1st Division league champions when Notts (newly promoted to the top flight in 81/82) beat them 1-0 and Neil Warnock's Wembley years which saw Notts promoted back to the top flight in consecutive seasons to name but a few.

Pete's daughter Penny Gibbons told the Official Site: "He would have loved to have seen the fantastic work Martin Allen and Ray Trew are currently doing at the club.

"Apart from his beloved Notts, his plumbing business and family, Pete spent most of his time enthralled by any sport he could get his hands on. He was a regular at Trent Bridge and Long Eaton Speedway before it disbanded and he travelled up and down the country to watch his guilty pleasure of National Hunt Racing. He was a keen darts player in his day and a motorcycle enthusiast.

"Dad's funeral will be at Bramcote Crematorium on Friday 4th November at 3pm. Flowers by family only please but if anyone would like to make a donation the family have chosen Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance."

He can now be rest assured that his sporting legacy, enthusiasm for sport and love for Notts will continue with his daughter Penny his two granddaughters and that they will never forget their sports mad Dad/Granddad.

Everyone at Meadow Lane would like to pass on their condolences to the family.
