Schmeichel joined the Magpies from Premiership big-spenders Manchester City in August, 2009 for an undisclosed fee.
He arrived with an impressive resume, having notched up a handful of top-flight appearances for the Blues, in addition to 17 caps for the Danish under-21s.
Early on in his career he spent time on-loan at a number of League Two clubs, such as Darlington and Bury, where he quickly made a name for himself, displaying similar qualities to that of his father, Peter.
Following an impressive spell with Falkirk, the stopper was soon handed his City debut in 2007 under Notts' current Director of Football, Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Highlights of his encouraging displays in front of the Match of the Day cameras saw him shut out Manchester United, as well as superbly deny Arsenal's Robin Van Persie from the penalty spot.
The emergence of Joe Hart and arrival of Shay Given saw him fall down the pecking order, leading him to join Championship sides Cardiff and Coventry. Both expressed an interest in signing the agile goalkeeper on a permanent deal.
Nonetheless, Schmeichel opted to link up with Eriksson for the second time, putting pen to paper on a five-year contract with County.
