Million Pound Game

Posted on: Fri 27 Jan 2012

Martin Allen has spoken of how important this weekend's game against Stevenage is for Notts County Football Club.

Notts will travel to the Lamex Stadium for Round Four of the FA Cup with Budweiser on Saturday.

Should the Magpies reach Round Five, there is a very good chance of a tie with a Premier League team, which would be a significant money-spinner for the club.

The County boss has described the fixture as a "million-pound game".

He told Magpie Player: "If you get through this and you get one of those big boys away, it's a million quid.

"It's like that Chris Tarrant game, isn't it? You go through all those rounds and you end up trying to pull one out the bag for a million quid.

"We've got to get through this round and hope, on Sunday, that someone pulls our number out the bag to earn the boss here a million quid.

"That's what it's like - it's that close - that's what this weekend's potentially got."

Stevenage have been beaten only once in their most recent 15 matches and have beaten a number of higher division sides in recent times.

"It's a chance for both clubs; you've got to remember they've beaten Reading - a great result, 1-0," Martin continued.

"Stevenage fully deserved to beat them and Reading are a good Championship team.

"Last year, Stevenage beat Newcastle at Stevenage so let's not make no bones about it, we are the underdogs and this is one hell of a tough day out."
