Despite being knocked out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, Craig Short was proud of his team.

Speaking to Magpie Player after the game, Short felt that his team put in their best performance of the campaign so far - better than the 1-0 win over Plymouth in Round 1 of the Carling Cup.

But in order to make the most of such hard work, he reiterated that his side have to stop giving themselves mountains to climb.

He explained: "You can't give average teams a head start, never mind teams that are top of the table.

"A lot of teams would have folded and gone under but we didn't and I'm proud of them.

"It's the best we've played, we caused them problems, we defended for our lives and we worked hard.

"I've said to them afterwards that there was not a lot wrong and we're not far away."

Notts County take on Yeovil at Meadow Lane at the weekend, celebrating 100 Years at Meadow Lane.
