Notts County need to get to grips with the step up to League 1 football, explained Manager Craig Short after a second loss of the season.

Paul Dickov's Oldham Athletic struck three times to condemn the Magpies to a second 3-0 league defeat.

Short explained that his team cannot expect to steamroller their opponents this term and is looking for more from them on Saturday against Dagenham & Redbridge at Meadow Lane.

He said: "We've stepped up a league and they've got to realise quickly that it's going to be difficult.

"It's going to be tougher but we should be able to cope with it better than that.

"We put on good training sessions but we looked off the pace, and now they've put themselves under pressure for next week for the home game.

"It's easy to say great team spirit when you're knocking teams over by four of five goals but you've got to show that when you're having a tough time - and we're having a tough time."
