A place in Round 2 of the Carling Cup was earned through sheer graft, according to Mike Edwards.

The defender put in a Man of the Match performance at the heart of defence in the 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle last night.

Edwards believes that the commitment shown by the whole team is what helped them shut out the Green Army.

He said: "It was great to keep the clean sheet and I think we worked really hard as a team.

"The first 20 minutes we were up against it but I think we grew in confidence, started drawing them out of position and we managed to create a few more openings.

"The last 10 minutes they bombarded us but we expected that, and the lads have defended great as a team.

"Everybody was throwing their bodies in the way and that's what it's about to keep a clean sheet."
