This evening's Carling Cup match is the perfect opportunity for the team to raise a few smiles, according to Craig Short.

The weekend's loss disappointed the Magpies' Manager and his squad, but they have now put it behind them, with the focus placed on the clash with Plymouth.

Short sees it as the perfect opportunity for the players to prove what they can do against solid League 1 opposition.

He said: "I'm not a negative person and I know in football as a player you have those ups and downs as a player.

"You can feel as low as anything on a Saturday after a bad day as a player and you think put it right on the Saturday.

"But, fortunately we get the chance to put it right on the Tuesday in the Carling Cup.

"We've talked about Saturday and we've put it behind us, so now let's see the real Notts County and show us what you are made of."

He added: "Hopefully the players will do that against Plymouth but we're also looking ahead to Oldham, because we want to get that first league win as soon as possible."

Notts are 5/2 to win tonight's meeting over at Coral.
