Wake Up Call

Posted on: Tue 10 Aug 2010

Manager Craig Short has described the weekend's loss to Huddersfield Town as a 'wake up call'.

Notts were beaten 3-0 by one of the League 1 title favourites (2/1 on Coral) thanks to a brace from Anthony Pilkington and a Jordan Rhodes finish.

Overall it proved to be a very disappointing opening day of the season for the Magpies - but Short isn't panicking.

He said: "It was very frustrating and something that I didn't expect, with the way that the players have trained in pre-season and the way they've played in the games, I expected to give them a better game.

"We'd watched Huddersfield three times, and I know they're favourites, but we thought that we could match them.

"The disappointing thing was that we got a little bit bullied and outmuscled from the start, and if you start badly in any game, it doesn't matter who you're against, you're going to find it hard to pick it up.

"We got a little bit of pressure on us and a little bit nervous, and I suppose the team is used to winning, getting on top of teams and even steamrolling teams.

"The only good thing that came out of it that it was a wake-up call to the players and we've got 45 games left - it's a long season."

Notts travel to Plymouth Argyle in the Carling Cup on Tuesday, August 10 for a 7.45pm kick-off.
