Mike Edwards is refusing to predict how well the team will fare in League 1 this season.

The defender experienced his first promotion with the Magpies last season, as the team secured the League 2 title.

Edwards believes that the team should be judged at the end of the season, when all is said and done.

He explained: "Every team I've played for, every season you want to go out and win the league.

"Nobody might have expected us to go out and do what we did last year, to be fair.

"I think every player goes out to set their aims as high as they can really and go from there.

"You take it as it comes and I've always said just to judge us come the end of the season on how we've done."

Still, Edwards feels that the team has progressed well throughout pre-season and is hoping to build on last year's success.

He continued: "Everyone's gelled well and it's going smoothly so now we're just looking forward to the start of the season.

"Hopefully we can take the momentum that we had from last season into this one.

"It's a great first fixture to have, Huddersfield at home, and I think it'll be a good turnout, to be honest."
