Official Site Links Up With Access Network

Posted on: Fri 30 Jul 2010

The Official Site has teamed up with Access Network to give disabled supporters greater access to information.

10million people in the UK are estimated to suffer from some form of disability -ranging from dyslexia, cognitive and learning difficulties, through to severe impairments, such as blindness.

People would assume the internet to is out of reach of these users, but with the aid of assistive technologies the World Wide Web has given many disabled people greater autonomy than ever before - as long as the web sites they use are accessible.

Access Network now delivers the Official Site's Disabled Fans page, ensuring that a wider range of supporters can find out about matchday information and what services are available to them, including SoccerSight, a project which aims to bring quality football commentary to blind and partially sighted people at every professional football club in the UK.

Multimedia Editor Dane Vincent said: "It's something that we've had in the works for a while now and we're delighted to finally get it up and running.

"It's a very useful tool that I'm sure will help people with certain disabilities to access the site more easily."

Point software by Widgit and Roktalk has been installed onto the page to assist those with text processing disorders, cognitive difficulties, dyslexia and people who may not use English as their first language.
