Focus on the positives

Posted on: Tue 16 Mar 2010

Graeme Lee has encouraged his teammates to take the positives out of last night's game with Bournemouth.

An injury time volley from substitute Jeff Goulding led to the Magpies dropping two points.

Although the mood in the dressing room after the game was sombre, the team did enough to climb into the automatic promotion places.

Bearing this in mind, Lee said: "It was not a happy mood, the lads' heads are down and it feels like a defeat when you concede a goal so late on.

"We need to lift our heads up, get on with it now and take the point out of it.

"It moves us into the top three and we can take the positives out of it hopefully."

Lee gave credit to the Cherries, who provided a stern test under the Meadow Lane floodlights.

He explained: "They aren't up at the top of the table for nothing and we knew it was going to be tough.

"We let them get going, we held out for a long time, but it's just frustrating when you concede late on.

"The first one was a free-kick outside the box, which has taken a slight deflection off me and gone in off the post.

"It's slight things like that that decide games and it's disappointing to concede in open play in the dying seconds - we should have finished the game off.

"It was a tense atmosphere, it was exciting for the fans but all I can think about is frustration. We will kick on again on Saturday."
