Best health project

Notts County Football in the Community's Active Schools scheme has been selected as the best health project by the Football league.

At an awards ceremony last night, FITC community director Steve Hill and his staff accepted a framed certificate for the which delivers exercise, sport and healthy lifestyle sessions in all 81 primary schools in the city of Nottingham.

Each school receives 12 weeks of activities a year with coaches, who are working with approximately 8,000 children a year.

To date results show that 90 per cent of all children taking part improve their levels of fitness, 92 per cent have a greater understanding of healthy foods and the benefit of regular physical activity, and most become more confident in themselves.

Although the project didn't win the Football League Trust Community Project of the Year award, which they have been nominated for twice in the last three years, he credited his team for their continued hard work.

He said: "It's been a fantastic year and it's great to be recognised to receive an award for the programme.

"It's down to the hard work of our community team and the wonderful support of our partners."

A range of clubs, players and individuals were recognised at the 2010 Football League Awards incorporating FourFourTwo's Top 50 Football League Players.

The awards were received at a gala dinner at Grosvenor House, Park Lane on Sunday evening in front of 900 attendees from clubs, sponsors and the football industry.

The Football League Awards take place annually and reward excellence both on and off the pitch.

This year a total of 295 entries were received from all 72 League Clubs for categories from Fan of the Year and Best Marketing Campaign to Goal of the Year and Player of the Year.

The number one spot in the FourFourTwo Top 50 Football League Players went to Newcastle United's striker Kevin Nolan. Jermaine Beckford of Leeds United was the highest rankedCoca-Cola League 1player and Craig Dawson of Rochdale the best fromCoca-Cola League 2.

Commenting on the 2010 Football League Awards, Football League Chairman, Lord Mawhinney, said: "Once again, these awards have given us the opportunity to honour those clubs and individuals whose commitment to the game or their local community goes beyond the call of duty.

"The fifth Football League Awards have been an enormous success, and I congratulate all the winners on their achievements."
