A worthy cause

Posted on: Fri 12 Mar 2010

After reading the Help for Heroes stories about former Notts striker Phil Stant and Notts fans Dougie Pullen and Leon Reeves, another supporter has been in touch.

Nick Everitt has been a coming down to Meadow Lane for 36 years and serves in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

He returned from Afghanistan in November 2009 but had previously served in Germany, Belgium, Canada, Sierra Leone, Bosnia and Norway, as well as here in the UK.

Nick's first game was in 1974 with his Grandad and he has been watching the Magpies in action ever since, though he is unable to visit as much as he'd like.

He explained: "As with other serving fans I get to as many games as possible and when all the games over Christmas were cancelled I was gutted, luckily I still got to see us stuff Burton.

"I am due out of the army early next year after 24 years and I am looking forward to being able to have a season ticket again - my last one was in 1985."

The club has already raised over £1,500 for the charity this season and Nick agrees that it is brilliant that they are supporting such a worthy cause.

He added: "I think it's fantastic that Notts are getting behind our boys in the forces.

"They are putting their lives on the line every day out in Afghanistan and they are doing a fantastic job in the harshest of conditions."

You can give money to Help for Heroes by visiting the club shop or the Supporters Club office all this week.
