Goals are icing on the cake
The Magpies recorded their third win on the bounce under Steve Cotterill on Saturday and the new boss is delighted.
Not only did Notts make amends for the defeat at Meadow Lane earlier in the season, they made it three clean sheets in a row for the second time this term.
This has been the statistic that has pleased Cotterill the most.
He explained: "The clean sheets are the thing I'm most pleased with, I think, because it means we're concentrating for 90 minutes.
"The goals are always the icing on the cake, we don't need the goal difference this year now so the wins are more important.
"It's a good start but as long as we can stay as committed and determined, hopefully we'll pick up a few more results along the way.
"I thought this was a very tricky game and the pitch was bobbly for both teams.
"It was a tough game and to come here against a decent team - they turn over a lot of teams there - it was a good performance by ourselves.
"We'll get them going again on Monday and then after Tuesday's game we get a little bit of a breather."
Cotterill was also delighted with Lee Hughes' impactful return to the team, following his suspension.
He said: "Hughesy's composure for his goal was first class and then obviously we've got a clever back-heel and a fantastic finish for the third from Luke Rodgers.
"We know what he brings to the team, not only his goals but his appreciation of the other players.
"I didn't have any doubts about bringing him straight back in and I don't mean that to sound disrespectful to the other lads.
"There was no way that I was going to leave him out of the team."
