Weathered the storm

Posted on: Wed 03 Mar 2010

Graeme Lee was thrilled with the manner that the Magpies' backline coped with Macclesfield's approach to the game last night.

During the closing stages of the match, as the visitors sought to salvage a point, they bombarded the Notts' defence with long balls.

Lee felt that by successfully shutting out the Silkmen, the team showed how they can adapt to handling any kind of attacking approach.

He explained: "They came at us, they pumped balls at us but we've stood our ground, battled away and fortunately come out with our clean sheet.

"By doing that you're always going to pick up points and we've done that here.

"It's nice because you aim for a clean sheet as a defender and that's what we've done.

"It wasn't the prettiest game in the world but we've battled away and shown our other side of our game and we've got the three points."

Lee was also pleased for his teammate, Jamie Clapham, who netted the winning goal.

I was the left sided player's first goal of the campaign.

"He's benefitted from being pushed forward a little bit," he said.

"He's done what good left wingers do by getting to the back stick for the cross and finished it well.

"We're delighted with the three points and delighted that's he's got the goal."
