John Thompson believes that the convincing triumph over Hereford United will give their League Two rivals a reason to fear the trip to Meadow Lane.

The Magpies netted another five goals at the weekend, the third time they have done so on home soil this season, following goal hauls against Bradford City and Northampton Town.

Thompson feels that the other promotion contenders will now be looking over their shoulder with caution after another compelling score line.

He explained: "All the teams around us will look at that result and it sends waves through the division really and I think they're going to be a bit scared to come here.

"We've just been doing our job, coming in and training hard and putting in performances like that so it's going well.

"In the second half it was an outstanding performance by the lads but it's about moving on now, not dwelling on that 5-0 win.

"We need to keep going, there's a lot of confidence in the dressing room and it's a good place to be.

"It's a credit to the lads, there's been a lot going on this season and everyone's kept their head down and the performances have been brilliant.

"The fact that we kept another clean sheet is a bonus as well, it's the whole 11 out there and the subs that come on all doing a great job.

"We're happy with that but we need to build on it."

Next up for County is Keith Alexander's Macclesfield Town, a side that typically enjoys a physical approach to games.

Thompson is bracing himself for another battle but feels that Notts are more than equipped to fight fire with fire, should they need to.

He said: "Macclesfield are a physical side, we had a few had to go off injured last game.

"I broke my nose up there but that's how their manager likes to play and it won't be a problem for us.

"Our players can be physical too, both Bish and Ricky have showed that this season."
