Set piece wizard Ben Davies has put his spectacular free-kick contributions down to hours of practice on the training pitch.

The creative midfielder found the net again last week against Aldershot, rescuing a point for the promotion chasing Magpies.

This added to stunning efforts against Torquay, Wigan and Forest Green Rovers.

Davies, however, feels that these couldn't have been achieved without the additional work after normal sessions.

"All the time, I'm constantly practicing after training - 20 minutes every day," he explained.

"I'm confident at the minute and I know that I can hit the target if I get a chance anywhere around the goal.

"It was nice to score again against Aldershot last week and seeing the practice paying off."

He added: "We've had a lot of emphasis on set pieces this season and I think it's a massive thing in this league.

"Some teams have got out of this division on set pieces alone.

"We've got more than that but it is always nice to see a set piece routine come off.

"We've also got some good headers of the ball and we get some good movement in the box.

"Dave's been working us hard on them and it is always good when we get goals from them."

Davies now has nine goals this term and looks set to add to that tally over the remaining months of the season.

"I think that's any midfielder's aim, getting to double figures as quickly as you can," he said, expressing his satisfaction at his current tally.

"We've all got to chip in, it's not just up to the strikers to score goals.

"The midfielders have got to help out as well and I'm just delighted to make a contribution."
