Club reacts to obstructive press reports

Posted on: Fri 19 Feb 2010

Following discussions with supporters, Ray Trew, chairman of Notts County Football Club, would like to clarify the current situation at the club, in light of damaging accusations made in the national press this week.

Mr Trew would like to confirm that no decision has yet been made on whether to place Notts County Football Club into administration.

As has been stated on numerous occasions, Mr Trew's accountants have been working day and night to compile an accurate and concise appraisal of the club's current financial position, so that informed and rational decisions can be made on how best to move forwards.

Until all of the facts are known, we cannot make any decisions regarding this issue, but we can confirm that it remains the intention of both Mr Trew and the board of directors not to place the club into administration, if at all possible.

"We want to avoid administration at all costs, because the people who would get hurt the most by this action would be the local businesses who support this football club," Mr Trew explained.

"This club relies on the support of the local community and it is my intention to do everything in our power to avoid damaging the strong ties that exist with local businesses.

"We have been exploring every avenue in our search for a solution to the current financial problems at the club and we have already had some success to this end in reducing the outgoings significantly," he added.

"However, the process of auditing a football club's finances is an intricate procedure and we refuse to cut corners in this task as we look to build a solid platform from which to launch Notts County Football Club forwards in the years to come, both on and off the pitch.

"The board fully appreciates the frustration of the fans, as they wait to hear news on the future of their club, but we would ask them to be patient for a short while longer so that we can work towards our goals within the timeline that we set out for ourselves when completing the takeover."

Whilst work is ongoing to address the club's financial position in the short-term, it should also be noted that high-level talks have been taking place on a daily basis to secure significant commercial partnerships and sponsorship deals for next season, details of which will be announced in the coming weeks.
