Clocking up air miles

Posted on: Fri 19 Feb 2010

As the fixtures continue to come in thick and fast, Mike Edwards has declared that everybody is in the same boat.

Winter weather forced postponements up and down the country at the back end of 2009 and most teams are playing two games every week to make up for it.

This has certainly been the case for County, as the FA Cup led to more matches being pencilled into an already busy diary.

Edwards explained how busy February has been for the players, following trips to Bournemouth and Fulham, and ahead of journeys to Aldershot and Darlington.

"We've covered some miles this month, we'd clock up some points on the air miles if we could," he joked.

"I think the Grimsby game was the only match that we've got at home this month.

"We'll be okay, if we can get good results in all these away games that are coming up, we'll be in a good position.

"I know we've got quite a lot of games in hand but everyone else is playing the similar Saturday and Tuesday games every week.

"If we can keep winning the normal league fixtures, then hopefully the teams above us will drop points.

"We've got quite a few games in hand and they'll be a bonus so if we can get up there with those in hand, it can make things a bit easier."

When asked whether Notts could catch league leaders Rochdale, the centre-back did not rule out the possibility.

He said: "Who knows what we can do? Promotion is our main aim so it's the top-three to catch.

"The first thing to do is make sure we can get up there, that's the hardest thing to do, catching up.

"Once you've done that, you can find yourself staying up there."
