Normally enough

Dave Kevan was disappointed not to take maximum points from last night's clash with lowly Grimsby Town, especially since his side created so many opportunities.

Lee Hughes put the Magpies ahead with a glancing header, only to have it cancelled out by Town debutant Jamie Devitt on the stroke of half time.

Notts' caretaker boss felt that it was down to a lack of cutting edge in front of goal, much because of Nick Colgan's heroics between the sticks, and the inability to shut out their hard working opponents.

He said: "I have to say that our downfall was not being able to keep a clean sheet.

"I thought we played very well for the first 44 minutes we played really well, created a number of chances but we couldn't add to our first goal.

"We got our goal and continued to press, creating chances, and I think over the course of the game we've had about 20 efforts, which is normally enough to win a football game.

"We felt relatively comfortable during the first period, we passed the ball well and were patient when we needed to be.

"But in the end it's become frustrating, topped off by Lee's sending off as well."

Hughes will be suspended for one match as a result of his two yellow cards and will miss the weekend's trip to Aldershot.

Kevan also paid tribute to the fans again for their unrelenting backing over the course of the whole 90 minutes.

He said: "The supporters were first class again, though I think they were getting a bit frustrated, as we all were, the way the game was panning out.

"But they stuck with us and again they've seen their team giving absolutely 100 per cent for the cause.

"As long as we continue to do that, then I'm sure that things will be fine."
