More than £800 has been raised for the charity and more fans are joining every day.

The club's press officer, Ralph Shepherd, decided that it would be a good idea for Magpies fans to get together to raise money for charity.

"The more fans we can get to do the run, the better," he explained.

"It's a great chance to get the supporters together and do something for a worthwhile cause.

"Although the Sport Relief logo is red, we want to add some black and white to the day, which I'm sure will be highly enjoyable for everyone involved."

Also joining in the run will be Mr Magpie and youth team boss Michael Johnson.

Johnson hailed fans' fundraising efforts and has no doubt that the £1,000 target can be smashed.

He said: "It's brilliant what the fans have raised already and hopefully we'll double it, triple it and keep it rolling. Obviously the more money for the charity the better.

"It'll be nice and hopefully there'll be a big turnout, a lot of money will be raised and obviously the charity will benefit.

"It's all towards a good cause and that's one of the reasons that I've said I'll come down and do a few miles with the fans.

"I'm sure there'll be a few fans who will add themselves at the last minute [looks around at coaching staff], but I'm hoping that there'll be a few more that will join us."

All the money raised by the public is spent by Comic Relief to help transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people, both at home and across the world's poorest countries. So be a part of it… Rise to the challenge for Sport Relief!
