Ian: "It Was A Treat To Watch"

Posted on: Sat 08 Aug 2009

Ian McParland has told his Notts County players - along with the fans - to 'enjoy the moment' after County's scintillating start to the season.

County began the campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of Bradford City to cruise to the top of League Two.

It was a start of the season fans could have only have dreamed for - but it quickly became reality as McParland's men showed their class against the Bantams.

"It was a treat to watch, an absolute treat and it has been a fantastic day," said McParland.

"We have to maintain those standards now, and if we do that I think we will be ok.

"We can't get carried away with this result and I hope the fans don't expect that type of result every week!

"I've told the players and staff to enjoy the moment, and I hope the fans do too."

Lee Hughes marked his County debut with a hat-trick and McParland paid tribute to the experienced frontman for his contribution.

He said: "The finishing was fantastic; Lee Hughes is a goalscorer and the balls into the box were excellent too.

"We played some really good football today - pretty much like last season but this time we stuck our chances in the back of the net.

"It was great for all our goals to come from the new signings and we got an early goal which was so important.

"All of a sudden the goal helped us and we started passing the ball around."

Ben Davies opened the scoring on 13 minutes and has been classed as doubtful for the midweek Carling Cup game with Doncaster Rovers after going off at half-time with a groin injury.

"Ben could have carried on, but we would rather not risk him because we have a lot of games coming up," revealed McParland.
