Matt Hamshaw today highlighted the importance of Notts County starting their League Two campaign in good form.

County started last season with just one defeat from their first twelve games, but claimed only two victories during that run.

And last season's Player of the Year firmly believes that County know that a good start is vital if they have aspirations to be at the top end of League Two this season.

He said: "We've learnt you can't draw too many games early on because for all the hard work of going eleven games unbeaten last year we simply didn't win enough and that came back to haunt us.

"Teams who started the season well stayed up there like Dagenham, Shrewsbury, Rochdale etc and winning clearly breeds confidence.

"Can we get the confidence going early on? That is the big question.

"If we can do that, we can kick on."

County start their season at home to Bradford City this weekend.
