Ian McParland is geared up for the new season after seeing his side round off their pre-season campaign with a 2-2 draw against a Liverpool XI last night at Meadow Lane.

McParland admitted in his post-match interview that his side were slow-starters in the Friday evening fixture, but felt once his players got into their stride they were in control for the majority of the game.

With the chances County carved out - especially in the second half - they looked likely winners but had to settle for a draw.

"We didn't start for twenty minutes really, but when we did start playing we got on top," said McParland.

"Liverpool have a good young team and they used the ball well, but with the chances we had we should have had five or six goals.

"I want us to pass the ball, but I felt we overpassed at times - but in all it was a good workout."

McParland drew plenty of positives from the game, but admitted he wanted more.

"I think I took more positives out of the Derby and Forest games being honest," he said.

"There were positives out there don't get me wrong - but there just could have been more."

The Scot is now looking forward to getting down to work next week with the big kick-off just seven days away.

"I'm looking forward to the lads getting a little break this weekend and then getting down to preparing for the first game of the season," he said.
