When Les Met Sven

Posted on: Tue 28 Jul 2009

Notts County's all-time leading goalscorer Les Bradd had the pleasure to dine with new Director of Football Sven-Goran Eriksson on Saturday.

Bradd - who blasted home 137 goals for County between 1967 and 1978 - was a guest of Executive Chairman Peter Trembling in the Boardroom for County's pre-season friendly against Nottingham Forest.

Les got the chance to meet Mr Eriksson prior to kick-off and told nottscountyfc.co.uk he filled the former England Manager in on life under Jimmy Sirrel at Meadow Lane in his playing days.

Said Les: "It was lovely to meet Sven; we had a good chat about Notts County and a little laugh at being the same age.

"We spoke about the late Jimmy Sirrel for a while; although there were so many people wanting to talk to him we didn't get the chance to have a long conversation.

"He was enquiring about Jimmy and what he was like as a Manager, so I was only too willing to tell him one or two stories about Jimmy."

Giving his feedback on County's performance, Les felt the Magpies thoroughly deserved their 2-1 victory and believes the signs are positive going into the new season.

"It was a good pre-season friendly and I think Charlie will have been quite pleased with how the game went," he said.

"I think Notts County fans have a good season to look forward to.

"I particularly enjoyed the second goal, scored by Lee Hughes.

"It was a great cross by Craig Westcarr, as a past centre forward those were crosses you would dream of getting on the end of.

"Credit to Hughes, it was a great header and I think he will be a regular on the scoresheet this season.

"I was also impressed with Luke Rodgers; he came on at half-time and gave the Forest defence some real problems.

"He was industrious and took his goal well, and I liked the look of him."
