I Feel Good

Posted on: Tue 28 Jul 2009

After making his home debut on Saturday against Nottingham Forest, Lee Hughes is already mesmerised by the buzz around Meadow Lane.

Hughes signed two-year deal with County last Wednesday and 72 hours later he headed home what turned out to be the winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest.

Over 12,000 supporters turned out to watch the pre-season friendly and Hughes has urged the Magpies faithful to continue to turn out in numbers and help play their part in what will hopefully be a successful season for County.

"The atmosphere was electric on Saturday and that is what we would love down here every week," he said.

"There is a great buzz about the place and I'm pleased to be part of this club.

" I want to be part of the exciting future which the Manager talked to me about before I signed.

"I heard a lot about the Gaffer before I came here and I'm enjoying playing for him."

Hughes quickly struck up a good rapport with the County fans, putting in a hardworking display which was capped off by his superb header on the hour to defeat County's city rivals.

And he insists the best of him is very much to come.

"I've only trained twice with the boys so I'm still getting my fitness back and I'll get better," he said.

"I did the first two weeks of pre-season with Oldham and I also did a bit with Kidderminster on-and-off, so I still have a bit to catch up with.

"I'm sure in the next few weeks I'll catch up and be fresh for the start of the season.

"I felt good out there, my sharpness is coming back and getting a goal doesn't do much harm either.

"It was a great ball in from Westy, he put it on a plate for me."

Hughes will be aiming to carry on where he left off on Tuesday evening when Derby County come to Meadow Lane.
