Ian McParland was 'pretty satisfied with the workout' after watching his side defeat Championship side Nottingham Forest at Meadow Lane this afternoon.

County were 2-1 winners thanks to second half goals from Luke Rodgers and Lee Hughes.

The victory made it three wins from four games during pre-season for the Magpies, and afterwards McParland admitted he is pleased with how his side is shaping up for the new season.

"There was plenty to be pleased with - especially the result and our fitness levels," said McParland.

"We passed the ball about well at times and things are taking shape nicely.

"I felt we were excellent throughout and we deserved to win the game.

"I'm delighted for the Notts County fans to go away having beaten their local rivals.

"It wasn't your normal friendly, both teams went out there to win the game and it was a really competitive game."

McParland reserved special praise for his goalscorers, who have both swiftly made an impact at Meadow Lane.

Hughes marked his debut with a goal and Rodgers' fine finish made it six goals in four games in pre-season.

"Lee Hughes came in and did really well although he is lacking a bit of fitness because he joined us late," he said.

"His goal summed him up and what he is all about, because being honest I didn't think he would get there!

"He didn't half get a powerful header in - and it was good to see Luke score as a well, he is a little livewire."

The next test for McParland's side is the visit of another Championship side, Derby County, to Meadow Lane on Tuesday.
