McParland Happy After 3-0 Win

Posted on: Tue 28 Jul 2009

After watching his side record a 3-0 victory over SV Austria Salzburg last night in Notts County's final game of their pre-season tour to Austria, Manager Ian McParland admitted: "Both games over here have been perfect for us."

Two goals from trialist Luke Rodgers and a well-taken effort from Matt Hamshaw gave Notts their first victory of their pre-season campaign.

And McParland was more than satisfied with what he saw from his players.

He said: "It was a bit of a scruffy game but we stuck at it, passed the ball and kept a clean sheet.

"On another night we could have had five or six goals, but we got the three and I was happy with a lot of things - Ben Davies and Neal Bishop were excellent in that midfield.

"It was a totally different game to Monday's match against the Romanian side, and SV gave us different things to deal with.

"It is fair to say both games over here have been perfect for us, just what we needed at this stage of pre-season."

Rodgers grabbed the headlines again to take his pre-season total to 4 in 2 matches, and McParland revealed the forward nearly didn't take part in the game.

"Luke - again - has not done himself any harm and finished both efforts off very well," he said.

"He might not have even played because of an ankle injury, but he did and got his rewards."

Winger Matt Hamshaw was withdrawn from the action a few minutes after opening the scoring, but McParland admitted that was a precautionary measure to prevent any further damage.

"I took Hammy off because he was feeling his groin a bit, probably because he scored with his left foot!" he joked.

Notts will continue to train until the weekend, with their flight back to the UK booked for Saturday evening.
